I want it to be easy!
Feeding your family good food shouldn’t be hard. But all of us at some time or another have found it difficult.
Maybe you don’t have time for cooking among the hundreds of other things that you have to do.
Maybe you’ve tried feeding your kids healthy food and they just throw it back at you.
Maybe you lack the energy to confront the kitchen every night.
Maybe you just find it hard to work out which foods are meant to be good for you this week.
Maybe you want healthy options that are actually affordable.
I want to take the hard work out of cooking for yourself and make it easy and affordable for you to eat healthy and sustainable food every day.
Because knowing how to cook gives you the power to eat the healthiest, most sustainable food at the cheapest price.
Because the skills you need to cook good healthy food are shockingly simple.
Because I want to bust the myth that cooking isn’t convenient.
Because the less we cook in our homes the less we eat together – which nourishes our souls.
Because our society’s obsession with out-sourcing our food production to manufacturers and restaurants is literally killing us through obesity and diabetes and destroying our environment in ways we don’t even understand properly yet.
Because the more we cook the more we have power to avoid plastic packaging, food waste and other things that are causing massive environmental harm.
So who am I?
I’m a home cook.
I’m not a chef and I don’t have any formal training in the kitchen.
I don’t have any aspirations to be on a cooking show and I won’t ever run a restaurant.
But I am what advertisers like to call “a busy mum”. I am a qualified sustainability specialist and I like to cook. I have three kids and live amid the hustle and bustle of Sydney, Australia.
I don’t go in for complicated recipes or fancy “plating up”. I just do simple, reliable, basic cooking without all the packets and packaging.
If you scan the recipe collections and tutorials I have created you’ll see that I have written out every step for a beginner, but if you have a little more experience you can just take the idea and riff off it.
If you listen to my podcast (coming soon!) you will see that I love talking about basic hacks, swaps and tips to trick up the sustainability in our homes and inspiring stories about people who are making a difference in their community.
I also love connecting food producers and consumers and have a life as a researcher into this topic.
And that is my hope for everyone: that they gain confidence in the kitchen so that cooking becomes an easy thing to do – and that they are empowered to eat healthy and sustainable food that has a good impact on our own health and that of the world around us.
